Indiana Golf Journal May 2022

May Means Golf Balls Flying and Race Cars Roaring in Indiana This edition of the Indiana Golf Journal includes news on the Pete Dye Golf Trail Passport program. We urge you to play all seven golf courses along the trail this year. When you play Maple Creek Golf and Country Club, check out the Pete Dye display inside the clubhouse. May means the Indianapolis 500! In its honor we talk about the Brickyard Crossing Golf Club, which sits on the same property as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). Hopefully, our story about Brickyard Crossing will inspire you to make a tee time. While you’re in the IMS neighborhood check out the Daredevil Brewery and learn more from an article submitted by Catherine Bowie. We hope you enjoy the inspirational story about Sam Roberts’ eight year journey to become the first recipient of the First Tee of Indiana’s Ace Award. Belinda Theoret’s column will open your eyes about the many potential mix-and-match opportunities with Vineyard Vines golf apparel. Congratulations to Cybill Stillson, a soon-to-be-graduate of NorthWood HS in Nappanee. She is one of 11 outstanding high school graduates, who will receive a Marilynn Smith Scholarship from the LPGA Foundation. The $5,000 scholarship is named in honor of one of the LPGA’s 13 Founders and awarded to high school graduates, who plan to play golf at an accredited college, or university in the United States. Cybill was the Senior Class President, served on the Fundraising/Marketing Committee for the National Honor Society, was a member of her school’s varsity volleyball team and a threetime captain of the varsity golf team. She was honored with the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award, set the low score record during the 2021 IHSAA state golf tournament last fall, and became the second player in Northern Lakes Conference history to be the conference tournament individual medalist all four years of high school. This coming fall, Cybillwill playNCAA Division I golf for Butler University and major in journalism with a sports media focus. After college, she plans to play on the EpsonTour, with dreams to become a major champion on the LPGA Tour, just like Marilynn Smith.
