The Schnitzelbank: World-Class German Cuisine By Mike May Authentic, genuine, and delicious are the threewords that best describe the cuisine at The Schnitzelbank authentic German restaurant in Jasper. The property was originally a tavern, but Larry and Betty Hanselman have been serving high-quality German and American fare, since 1971. Besides local residents and visiting tourists, The Schnitzelbank is also a popular destination for golfers, many of whom play at the nearby Sultan’s Run Golf Club, less than with German fries. The Bratzel won a statewide competition for the best sandwich in Indiana during the buildup to Super Bowl XLVI, held in Indianapolis in 2012. If you arrive for a late breakfast, you can order the spates fruhstuck two country fresh eggs served with your choice of bacon, or sausage with German fries, and toast. Now under the leadership of Alan Hanselman and Gail Hettinger, Larry and Betty’s son a five-minute drive from the course. The quality of the golf at Sultans Run is ‘on par’ with the quality of the menu items at The Schnitzelbank. The Schnitzelbank serves up great German foods like goulash, sauerbraten, weiner schnitzel, beef rolladen, schweine schnitzel, knackwurst, bratwurst and bockwurst. Be sure to try The Bratzel, a jumbo salted pretzel lightly covered with sauerkraut, two Merkley bratwurst with a drizzle of honey mustard sauce, served Indiana Golf Journal
