Although Tropical Storm Florence dumped over eight inches of rain on Charlotte, North Carolina, the grounds-keeping crews at both Charlotte Country Club and Carolina Golf Club had the host courses ready for play in the 38th U.S. Mid-Am Championship.

Qualifying out of Dublin’s Tartan Fields, Aaron Siekmann, from Powell fired a 69 to take medalist honors. Tony Heina, from Cleveland and Nick Reardon both carded 72 to tie for runner-up and Robert Davidge from Columus was the fourth qualifier from Tartan Fields.

In Medina at Weymouth Country Club Chris Okeson carded a 69 to punch his ticket to the U.S. Mid-Am Championship, along with Akron’s Aaron Crewse and Josh Clay from North Canton.

Also competing in Charlotte were, Scott Anderson, from Columbus, who reached the quarterfinals in last year’s U.S. Mid-Am.

After the first two rounds of stroke-play, Anderson tied for fifth, Josh Clay T-19, and Nick Reardon had to survive a 16-man playoff for 12 spots to make it to match play.

Both Reardon and Clay were knocked out in the Round of 64, but Anderson defeated Kenneth Cook from Indiana, 3-2 to advance, before losing in the second round to Kyler Sauer from California.
