Last spring when high-end clubmaker Parsons Xtreme Golf, or as it is better known as PXG, introduced the 0211 line of irons some thought the company may be changing its business strategy. The cast, rather than forged, 0211 line was actually priced within reach for the average golfer. At $225.00 per club, they were much less expensive than previous PXG manufactured irons. A complete set of 0211s, seven irons, 4 iron through pitching wedge, were priced at $1,575.00. Although still expensive, they were much more competitively priced with other major equipment manufacturer’s retail cost.
In August, PXG unveiled their new tour-style blade the 0311 ST with the comment, 
“We couldn’t help ourselves. We just had to make a pure tour blade.”
These premium blades were introduced at $650.00 per club, $4,550.00 for seven clubs, 4-iron through pitching wedge, complete with steel, or graphite shafts. They were more in line with the high-end equipment manufacturers normal pricing and reminiscent of the sticker shock, which accompanied the first PXG models.
The ST designation stands for Super Tour. The heads are triple forged from 8620 carbon steel for a tighter grain structure and CNC milled, an expensive finishing process that insures precise shaping of each head. The blade length is shorter and the offset is smaller, with a thin topline. Coupled with a nickel chromium plated finish, the 0311 ST line looks like what they are, a players-category iron.
PXG’s familiar weight ports, seven of them, are distributed across the lower flange at the rear of the head. Three in the middle hold light titanium weights and the remaining four, two at the heel and two near the toe, have heavier tungsten weights. The combination is designed to provide both help with the proper ball launch and trajectory, as well as, providing added forgiveness.
In keeping with the requirements of the better players targeted by PXG for the 0311 ST line, lofts are not as strong as normally found in game improvement irons, with the 5-iron at 26° and the pitching wedge at 47°.
