Cornwall: A Dream Destination For Classic Links Golf The St. Enodoc Golf Club, located in north Cornwall, has all the characteristics of a true seaside links golf course – firm, consistent greens, undulating fairways, tight, uneven fairways, blind shots, as well as memorable seaside views. The Church Course at St. Enodoc was designed by James Braid and first opened in 1890. The shorter Holywell course provides a typical links terrain with less daunting shots. The Church course gets its name from the 11th Century St. Enodoc Church, which sits in the middle of the course alongside the 11th fairway. Many professional golfers, including five-time OPEN Champion, Tom Watson, have visited By Mike May the Church course to prepare for the Open Championship. “It is a wonderful golf course,” said Watson. “It has lots of variety and beautiful views everywhere you look. It’s a great place to play golf.” Watson is not alone in his praise for St. Enodoc. “It’s got the wow factor,” notes Simon Greatorex, general manager, St. Enodoc Golf Club. “It’s a golf club that really stirs the soul.” One of Braid’s design features is the Himalaya bunker on the 6th hole, the tallest sand bunker in Europe, avoid it at all costs! As the opportunities to travel internationally continue to become safer, golfers are ready to travel overseas. In Cornwall, England’s most southwesterly county, you can eat a traditional Cornish pasty, take walks along coastal paths, enjoy a Cornish cream tea, and play one of Cornwall’s four historic golf links: St. Enodoc, West Cornwall, Perranporth, and Trevose.
